Biodegradable Packaging

Starting September 1, 2016, all vendors within the Town of Nantucket must comply by the Biodegradable Packaging Regulation set forth by the Board of Public Works. A downloadable copy of the Regulations and some informational documents are available below.

There are specific exemption to this regulations. All exemptions are as follows:

Exceptions to Local Regulation 71.00: Biodegradable Packaging

All of the following may still be used:
​- Aluminum
​ - Plastic straws
​- Small plastic containers (between 1-2oz)
​- Paper products
​ - Plastic utensils
​ - Plastic bread bags
​- Saran wrap
​- Packaging for products made off island
​ - Packaging for wholesale products
​ - Food banks and food assistance programs are exempt
​- Packaging for products meant to be consumed on vendor property (i.e. plastic cups may be used as containers for beverages in sit-down restaurants)
