Real and Personal Property Tax Deadline Extension to June 1, 2020.

Please be advised that the Collectors Office is not currently accepting in person payments of tax bills, excise or other bills normally dropped off at the office.  

During this time, please either mail them to the office at 37 Washington Street, Nantucket, MA 02554 or make payments online for real estate tax bills and motor vehicle excise bills at

If you must drop payments in person, please use the drop box located at 37 Washington Street. The lockbox is mounted through the wall of the building and is located in the corner under the porch.

The Tax Collector’s Office is part of the Finance Department.

Online Payments

Pay your real estate, personal property, and motor vehicle and boat excise tax bills online, or schedule automatic tax payments.

Fiscal Year 2020 Tax Rates have been set.

The third quarter actual real estate and personal property tax bills have been issued. They were due on February 3, 2020. The fourth quarter tax bills will be issued on April 1, 2020 and will be due on May 1, 2020.

Please call the Collector’s office if you do not receive not receive your bill – 508-228-7200 Option 2.  All checks must be made payable to The Town of Nantucket. Altered checks will be returned to the maker. Please use only blue or black ink.

By state law, interest is charged on any and all late payments - even bills that have never been received.

Please notify us if your billing address has changed or if you are a new property owner.

Additional Copies

Please call the Collector’s office if you do not receive your bills - 508-228-7200 option 2. We are happy to email, fax or mail you additional copies.

Motor Vehicle Excise Tax Bill

All motor vehicle excise tax bill address changes must be made directly with the the Registry of Motor Vehicles. You can call them at 857-368-8000 or go to their website.

Bank Payments

If you are using your bank’s online bill pay, you must indicate on your check the correct bill number, bill year and type of bill you are paying. If not included, we will no longer guarantee that your payment will be posted timely. If we are unable find the bill you are trying to pay, your payment will be returned to you.
