Employee Benefits

The Town of Nantucket offers a comprehensive benefits package to its employees. To be eligible for benefits, an employee must be employed in a position classified as regular and work a minimum of 20 hours per week for 52 weeks per year.

Health Insurance: (90% paid by the Town, 10% by the employee)

Flexible Spending Account: (no employer contribution)

o Full time employees may elect to participate in the Town’s FSA offered by TASC.

Basic Life Insurance: (50% employer contribution)

o Boston Mutual basic life coverage of $5,000; rates are based upon age at time of enrollment. 50% of the monthly premium is paid by the Town. Basic life must be elected to be eligible for Voluntary/Optional life.

Voluntary/Optional Life Insurance: (no employer contribution)

o Boston Mutual Voluntary/Optional life coverage of up to $500,000; rates are based upon age at time of enrollment.

Permanent Life Insurance/Group Critical Illness Insurance/Cancer Expense Insurance/Disability Insurance: (no employer contribution)

o Can be elected through our agents: Life Plus Insurance and Colonial Life. Rates vary.

Employee Time off with pay

Employees who earn benefits get time off with pay. The Town of Nantucket employees get paid holidays (holiday calendar) plus additional 8 hours of floating leave. For more information read Personnel Policies and visit our Labor Agreements page.

Retirement Plans (Active Employees)

Town of Nantucket employees are eligible for tuition reimbursement. Please refer to the Town and County of Nantucket Personnel Policy for more information and eligibility requirements.The Town of Nantucket requires employees who work 25 hours a week or more to participate in the Barnstable County Retirement System (BCRA) or Mass Teachers’ Retirement System (MTRS). The contribution rate for most employees will be 9% of regular compensation with an additional 2% if your annual rate of regular compensation of $30,000 or higher. This is a mandatory deduction, and employees cannot choose the % percentage to be taken. The Town of Nantucket also offers Voluntary 457 Deferred Compensation Plans with Nationwide Retirement Solutions and Great West (SMART plan).
