Mission
The mission of the Nantucket Harbor and Shellfish Advisory Board is to advise and make recommendations to the Select Board about the effective and appropriately balanced management and use of Nantucket’s marine resources both now and for the future.
The Harbor and Shellfish Advisory Board meets every first and third Tuesday of each month at 5:00 pm at the Meeting Trailer, 131 Pleasant Street, Nantucket, MA.
Guiding Principles
To accomplish its Mission, the Nantucket Harbor and Shellfish Advisory Board will advise and make recommendations to the Select Board on ways to:
- Ensure access to and balanced usage of Nantucket’s waters for recreational, family, and commercial uses
- Maintain and enhance the quality of Nantucket’s waters and ensure that the waters of Nantucket are protected from the harmful effects of human activity
- Oversee and ensure the sustainability of Nantucket’s natural marine resources for shell fishing, fishing, and other commercial and recreational activities, and to promote the broad biodiversity of Nantucket’s marine life
- Support the recommendations of any Harbor, Estuaries, Shellfish, Water Quality, Coastal Zone or similar management plan duly adopted by the town, and to help implement such recommendations
