Speed Feedback Sign Pilot Program

Beginning February 2 on Nantucket.

The Town of Nantucket, in cooperation with the Sconset Civic Association and MassDOT, is starting a pilot program to deploy and evaluate an electronic speed feedback sign. This sign will be installed along Milestone Road near the intersection of New Street where speeds should be reduced to 25 miles per hour entering the village of Sconset. This public safety effort will begin February 2, 2024.

A speed feedback sign displays the approaching vehicle’s speed to the driver and alerts them of their speed in relation to the posted limit. It also records the speed and volume of approaching vehicles for future evaluations. This sign is intended to stimulate attentive driving habits and help ensure safer driving speeds entering the village of Sconset. This piloting period will allow Town staff to evaluate the accuracy and usefulness of this equipment for data collection and improving traffic safety.

After three weeks of use the speed feedback sign data will be evaluated and continued use of the device will be assessed.
