The Town of Nantucket has begun the process of developing a Coastal Resilience Plan. A Request for Proposals was developed with the Coastal Resilience Advisory Committee (CRAC).
This resulted in the hiring of Arcadis with sub-consultants Stoss, ONE Architecture and Urbanism and The Craig Group in September 2020 to undertake the Coastal Resilience Plan. After an initial research and preparation period, Arcadis and partners are now commencing with a kickoff meeting with CRAC on November 24th at 10am.
There will be much public participation and surveys (for both the public and on the ground field surveys) over the next 10-11 months as the plan takes shape. The final plan is due for delivery on September 30th, 2021.
This is to be an all island, all county plan to make our community more resilient to coastal flooding, erosion and sea level rise. This plan requires involvement from all parts of the community including property owners, renters, large land-owning organizations, non-profits, interest groups and tourists and many other groups and constituents; we are all stakeholders and will all be affected by flooding, erosion and sea level rise. This plan will endeavor to have appropriate planning now for increased longevity of our coastal areas into the future.
