1. Where is Nantucket?

Nantucket is an island located about 30 miles south of Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

2. How do you get to Nantucket?

By ferry boat or airplane…There is no bridge.

3. How many people live on Nantucket?

According to thew 2020 census, the island has a year round population of around 14,255. In July and August the population swells to around 80,000 or more.

4. How can I find lodging on the island?

With the help of the Nantucket Lodging Association, Visitor Services maintains a daily list of lodging availability. Each morning and throughout the day, members of the Nantucket Lodging Association call in to list all their available rooms.

5. Where can I find restaurant information?

Visitor Services keeps track of restaurants all year round. A book of menus is always available to look at in the office.

6. Do all the restaurants stay open year round?

No. Many close for the winter. But, there are always restaurants open in the off-season. Between Labor Day and June 1, Visitor Services keeps track of open restaurants on a week to week basis.

7. How is the Town Manager appointed?

The Town Manager is appointed by the Select Board for a term of 3 years. The Town Manager has an employment contract with the Town (also approved by the Select Board) which generally runs concurrent to the 3 year term.

8. What is the Role of the Assistant Town Manager?

The Assistant Town Manager (ATM) acts as the Town Manager when that individual is absent. The ATM is often the “go to” person in Town government who relays items of importance to the Manager, facilitates projects and initiatives and has also recently been designated the lead person on the Town’s labor negotiations team.
