Pursuant to Massachusetts General Law Chapter 138, Section 12C, prior to 48 hours before the start of  a catered event where alcoholic beverages shall be served, a caterer licensed under the Section 12C shall provide a written notice of the event to the Police Chief and the local licensing authority. Liquor catering is incidental to food catering. Caterer must serve food in addition to the liquor catering event. The sale and service of alcoholic beverages is restricted to the premises where the operator caters a private event that is not open to the public. The caterer can serve alcohol at a private event for a maximum of 5 hours.
